As a young Christian, Francis would go down to the Rescue Mission and share with the men. This developed into a desire to want to live in the mission and help care for the men. He then met with the head of the mission, a former alcoholic himself, who recommended that Francis not move in. Francis was saddened, but three years later he pastored a live-in community of alcoholics, drug addicts and ex-cons for four years.
